Ely
ELY is a Cathedral City and is situated in the north
east corner of Cambridgeshire. It stands proudly in the
centre of the fens with the historic Cathedral standing
out as a landmark that can be seen, and admired, for
miles around.
Although ELY is a well developed community it still
retains that traditional charm and welcoming feeling
that comes from its historic roots.
Ely provides an excellent range of facilities for day to
day shopping and benefits from both the
convenience of several major stores as well as
traditional local family-run businesses. There are many
small shops providing a wealth of interest as well as a
general market held every
week. Ely has a good range of schools catering for
children of all ages and various sporting, social and
recreational activities. Ely has superb road
links
with the main A10 road network providing easy access to
Cambridge (approximately 15 miles), which in turn links
with the A14 and M11 motorway to London. Ely also has a
mainline rail service which provides a rail link to
Cambridge and London (approximately 70 miles) and it is
this that has led to
the
rapid residential growth that has taken place
over the last few years.
Littleport
LITTLEPORT is a north Cambridgeshire town with a good
range of shopping, schooling, health and day to day
amenities and facilities with a further more
comprehensive range of facilities available at Ely
(approximately 6 miles to the South). Littleport also
offers a mainline rail station to London via Cambridge
(20 miles) which is supported by a major road network
providing access to surrounding provincial centres
Soham
SOHAM is a historic market town situated on the
edge of the fens but still affording good access to the
City of Ely, Newmarket and the City of Cambridge.
It is situated almost equidistant between Ely and
Newmarket (6 miles) and is approximately 15 miles from
Cambridge. The A14 trunk road is close at hand and this
in turn leads into the M11 and the main motorway system
thus providing very good road links. Soham has excellent
primary and secondary schools and a good selection of
shops and other amenities, together with sporting,
social and recreational facilities.
Little Downham
LITTLE DOWNHAM is a small village situated approximately
2 miles from the Cathedral City of Ely. Little Downham
has a range of village amenities including nursery and
primary school with a full range of shopping, schooling,
sporting facilities etc. available in Ely itself. Little
Downham also benefits from the mainline rail service and
road network provided by the Cathedral City of Ely.
Chatteris
CHATTERIS is a North Cambridgeshire Town situated
approximately 12 miles North-West of Ely and is a
similar distance North-East of the busy market towns of
Huntingdon and St. Ives. The City of Cambridge is
situated approximately 20 miles to the South and has a
full range of amenities including a thriving social
scene. Chatteris has its own comprehensive range of
amenities and facilities, including schooling, shopping
and sporting facilities, with more varied facilities and
amenities available at the nearby centres previously
mentioned.
Haddenham
HADDENHAM is a popular village within easy reach of
local amenities provided by the larger Cathedral City of
Ely, which is situated approximately 7 miles to the
North-East and by Cambridge which is approximately 12
miles to the South. Haddenham has a range of day to day
amenities and facilities including primary school, post
office, shops, doctors surgery, chemist, butchers,
restaurant, two public houses together with a thriving
art gallery/studio which regularly holds exhibitions.
There are a number of clubs and societies within the
village which provide a full range of activities for
both young and old alike. A full range of shopping,
sporting, schooling and domestic facilities are
available at Ely and Cambridge. Nearby Ely has a
mainline rail service via Cambridge to London and
surrounding centres as well as easy access to the local
road network.
